Create and manage a discussion board section
Discussion board is where participants can virtually share opinions and discuss topics related to the research project.
- To create a new section:
Before you and your participants can make new posts, a forum section is needed.
Sections can be edited by clicking the "Manage Sections" button.
1. On your methinks dashboard click on the Discussion Board menu.
2. Click on + New Section, or if you already have created a section click on Manage Sections and + New Section.
3. Click on the text fields to add a section title and description.
4. To set a time when posts in the section should become available to participants, click on the toggle to turn it on and click to select a desired date and time.
5. Click on Save. - To manage sections:
1. Click on Manage Sections.
To edit a section:
1. Click on the pencil icon.
2. Make the necessary changes to the section.
3. Click on Save.
- To view the schedule set for a section to become available:
1. Click on Manage Sections.
2. Below each section time you will find the information for when the section will become available. E.g.: Available from 9:00 AM, Tue, Nov 24. If the section is already live, you will see a Live tag on the right side of the section’s title. - To create a new post:
Once you have created sections, which help you and participants to know where todiscuss a specific topic, it’s time to create posts. Posts are where conversations, interactions, and comments happen.
1. On your methinks dashboard click on Discussion Board.
2. Click on + New Post.
3. Click on the drop-down menu to select which Section to make this post available.
4. Click to select the Pin this post to the top checkbox and your post will be pinned to the top of the section.
5. Click on the text fields to add a section title and description.
6. Click on Create.
To add an image to the post:
1. Click on the clip icon.
2. Click on Browse to select an image from your computer or drag a file into the marked field.
3. Click on OK.
Note: You will see the image attached to the bottom of the post. - To view your discussion board posts:
1. On your methinks dashboard click on Discussion Board.
2. Click on All to see all discussion board sections.
3. Click to select the section of posts you want to view.
4. Click on the Section’s Name to change to All or to another section. - To sort the posts:
1. Click on the Sort by button.
2. Click to select the option you want to sort the posts by. - To sort the posts by ascending or descending order:
1. Click on the highlighted icon. - Posts details:
Pinned posts are pinned to the top of the sections and to the top of the posts list.
Posts’ author and date of publication are available on the top of the post.
The section a post belongs to is displayed below the poster's name and date of publication.
The numbers of likes and comments a post has received are available at the bottom of the post summary. - To view all details within a post and all comments:
1. On your methinks dashboard click on the Discussion Board menu.
2. Click on the desired post.
3. Scroll down the page to read all comments the post has received.
To like a comment:
1. Click on the heart icon.
To leave a comment on the post:
1. Click on the text field to type the comment.
2. Click on Comment.
To reply to a comment on the post:
1. Click on Reply.
2. Click on the text field to type the comment.
3. Click on Reply.
To delete a comment:
1. Choose the comment on the post that you want to delete.
2. Click on the three-dotted icon.
3. Click on Delete Comment.
To edit a post:
1. Choose the post you want to edit.
2. Click on the three-dotted icon.
3. Click on Edit Post.
4. Make the necessary changes.
5. Click on Update.
To delete a post:
1. Choose the post you want to delete.
2. Click on the three-dotted icon.
3. Click on Delete Post.
