Test Setup
To have your app tested with methinks hub of participants (Thinkers) or with your own users, make sure to add the App Test task when creating your methinks research project.
If you have already created a research project but didn’t add the App Test task yet, you can do so by clicking on Project Settings on your methinks dashboard. Learn more about how to edit Project Settings.

To set up the App Test:
1. On your methinks dashboard, click on the App Test dropdown menu.
2. Click on Test Setup.
Step 1: Schedule
- To select the time period for the app test:
1. Click to select the start date of the app test period.
2. Click to select the end date of the app test period.
3. Click on the drop-down button to select the start time of the app test. - To set the required amount of time users should test your app:
1. Click to select between setting a total time and setting a time by each day:
Set the total session time
By selecting this option your participants will be required to test your app for the set amount of time, regardless of which day they test it.
1. Click on the text field to input the time in numbers.
Set session time by date
By selecting this option your participants will be required to test your app for a certain amount of time each day.
1. Click on the drop-down button to select Same Every Day if you want participants to test your app for the same amount of time every day, or Different Every Day if you want participants to test your app for a different amount of time every day.If Same Every Day is the chosen option:
1. Click on the drop-down button to select the amount of time you want the app test sessions to last.
If Different Every Day is the chosen option:
1. Click on the top of the date and time fields to make changes to the test time. - To select the Start Time:
1. Click on the drop-down menu Start Time.
2. Click on Confirm. - To select the End Time:
1. Click on the drop-down menu End Time.
2. Click on Confirm. - To set to all-time available between one session and the next:
1. Click to select the Set to all-time available checkbox.
2. Click on Confirm. - To set a session time:
1. Click on the text field of each day to input the amount of time in minutes that a participant should test the app for.
2. Click on Save.
Step 2: Event Triggers
- To add a new event trigger:
1. Click on Add.
2. Click on the Event Name text field to type in the event name.
3. Click on the Event type dropdown menu button.
4. Click to select the event type.
5. Click on the Code dropdown menu button.
6. Click to select the desired language.
7. Click on Save.
8. Copy the codes and paste them into the appropriate location of your app codes to generate the events needed.
Step 3: Permissions
Enable and disable app features and permissions anytime by clicking on the toggle next to the feature or permission.

After turning a toggle on/off click on Save.

Taking screenshots
By turning this toggle on, participants will be permitted to take screenshots of your app when they test your app.
Screen recording
By turning this toggle on, the participant's mobile screen will be recorded when they test your app. The recordings will be available under the Recording menu.
Front-facing camera recording
By turning this toggle on, the participant's front-facing camera will be turned on when they test your app.
Hide Hover Button
By turning this toggle on, participants will not see the methinks hover button when they test your app. The methinks hover button allows users to report bugs and submit suggestions at any time when your app is open.
Using emulators
By turning this toggle on, participants will be permitted to use Android emulators for PC to open and test your app.
App Download Available
By turning this toggle on, participants will be able to start downloading your app via methinks.
