How to setup app test surveys

General surveys are surveys that your participants would complete using the methinks app, before, during, and/or after testing an app. Learn how to create general surveys.

App test surveys are surveys that would be triggered to appear from within your app as your participants are testing it.

How to set up an app test survey
In an App Test project, you can distribute surveys directly from your app using the App Test Survey feature. These app test surveys can be triggered by an event or by how much time your users have spent in your app.

To create an app test survey, the project must have the App Test task configured. Learn how to add a task to a project.

Step 1: To create an app test survey
1. On your methinks dashboard click on the Survey drop-down menu.
2. Select Surveys.

3. Click on +Add Survey.
4. Select the App Test Survey option.

5. Select the App Test Survey type:

Event-based:
To use event-based app test surveys, please remember to create an event in the App Test > Test Setup menu and select the app test survey as the event type. Learn more about App Test Setup.

1. Choose the event you want that will trigger the survey or click on Select Event Later to select the event at a later time.

Accumulated Time Based:
The survey will be triggered based on the accumulated time a user has used the app for.

1. Click and type to enter the minutes.

Session Count Based:

The survey will be triggered based on the number of sessions a user has with your app.

1. Click and type to enter the number of sessions.

2. Click on Save.
3. Click and type to add a Survey title.

4. Click on Save.

Step 2: Add survey questions and sections
After clicking on Save:

1. Click to select the App Test Survey that you want to add sections and questions to.

2. Create sections and questions in the App Test Survey Pack Editor.

Survey details overview

On your methinks dashboard under the menu Surveys, you can view all details related to each specific survey, including:

1. Users who were assigned and have completed the survey.
2. Survey start date/time and end day/time.
3. The number of questions.
4. Estimated survey time.

5. Type of triggers.

You can add general and app test surveys in the same project on your methinks dashboard under the Surveys menu. In case of creating a general survey in an app test project, you will also have the option to add a survey lock to the survey.

By selecting the Survey lock, participants will only be able to access the survey after they complete the App Session time requirement. You can add a Survey Lock when making the general survey live, under Survey Settings.

1. Click to select the checkbox.
2. Type into the text field to input the test session time requirement.

3. Click on save.
